Life in general is full of afflictions and strains that are taking a major toll on our health. Work, deadlines, expectations and responsibilities can be so mind numbing that we drown ourselves to an extent that it gets hard to emerge out of them.

Work is essential and no doubt everyone wants to accomplish as much as they can and as fast as possible. The constant race that humans are in amongst each other has caused a trend of a stressful life. It is absolutely necessary for everyone to take a breather and relax yourself at the end of the day.

Stress is one of the main factors behind our health being affected, mentally as well as physically. No matter what it is that you are doing, make sure to STOP and give yourself a break. Taking time out for yourself is never selfish, so always make sure to do that for yourself from your busy schedule.

Here are a few simple ways to relax yourself at the end of a day:

Switch off from work mode/ Technology

Leave all work related agendas at work and come home with a free mind looking forward to spending time with family and fur babies. Take a break from your phone and laptops for some time. Studies have shown the negative effect that the magnetic vibrations can have on our health. If you make it a habit to work after coming home, it can lead to negative patterns which can change into a habit. Colleagues may end up expecting more from you whereas family may feel neglected. So make sure to spend time with your loved ones with your mind completely off of work and gadgets.

Shower or take a bath

Taking a hot shower or bath after a long day at work will instantly feel relaxing. Take a bath by adding some relaxing essential oils along with your favorite scented candles; it is pure bliss for your soul. Essential oils will help by relaxing your body and making your tense muscles go lax. Tension will slowly leave your body and you will start to feel rejuvenated. Change into some comfortable and breezy pajamas so air can pass through, and just let your body breathe especially before getting into bed.

Music

Music is known to be very therapeutic in cases of stress. It does a great deal by slowly filling your ears and mind until you are consumed by the music. Music is also known to lower the blood pressure and slow/relax the heartbeat. Put something calm, soothing or your favorite type of music; let it flow through the air so it can calm you, as the stress drifts away slowly.

Workout/ Exercise

Exercise is a great way to not only to relieve stress but also to be in great shape, stay active and healthy. Choose any form of exercise that suits you, be it yoga, aerobics, dance, weights, cardio, HIIT, swimming, walking, anything that makes you feel good. It is a very effective way to get rid of pent up energy which can start to cause frustration and anxiety at the end of the day. Physical activity also stimulates the release of dopamine, nor-epinephrine and serotonin. These brain chemicals play a very important role in regulating your mood and have a positive impact in your brain and put you in a much better state of mind.

Herbal Tea

Teas are also a great way to sit down and relax. Sipping on the tea slowly can be very soothing, as the warm fluid slowly goes into your body; your muscles start to relax. There are so many types of teas that are available in the market, but my favorites to have while unwinding are Twinning’s pure chamomile tea, Organic India tulsi tea, Jasmine tea, green tea, lemon and ginger tea, and Organic India ginger and turmeric tea; to name a few. Even the regular Indian masala chai is also very helpful. Go for any of the tea flavours that you like, you will definitely feel the soothing vibes.

These were some of my simple ways to relax yourself from a busy day. I hope these help you guys out. If you guys have ways that are different from mine, then please comment below and share them with me. I would love to know more about you guys.

IMPORTANT

With all that being said, I want to touch base with you all regarding covid as well. This is something that none of us imagined going through. Lock down 3.0 is ongoing but the cases are still on the rise every day. These statistics are just a way to remind us of how serious the situation is and how seriously we need to take the precautions. Even though it is a scary time, we all need to stay calm and not take things out of proportion.

As long as we are maintaining proper hygiene, disinfectants, wearing masks, gloves, proper protective gear in public places, maintaining social distance; we will be fine. We shall avoid going out as much as possible so we can stay safe and keep our loved ones safe. There is absolutely no need to feel any panic or stress about this. Keep eating healthy home cooked food, avoid public gatherings, wear your masks, and use hand sanitizer as much as possible.

Rainy (Monsoon) Season Health Tips

Have you been looking forward to some relief from the scorching heat? Well, look no further as the monsoons/rainy season have officially arrived in the northern India. Chandigarh is already known as the “city beautiful” and in rainy season the beauty is enhanced completely with numerous lush green parks, the view of the mountains, Rose Garden, etc. The greenery along with the pouring rain gives off such a serene vibe to Chandigarh.

Monsoons is basically a shift in the prevailing winds from the south towards the north accompanying heavy rain falls that cool down the summer heat. This pouring season is very vital for our environment as it not only cools down the temperature but also provides aid to our farmers in crop cultivation and protects our animals from the heat.

If you are a wanderer you should be very careful about traveling during the monsoon months. It is essential to pack smart with rain safety gear such as an umbrella, rain boots, rain coats, or clothes that dry easily. Just by taking a few precautions your trips can be more enjoyable.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy this rainy season:

Maintain a healthy Diet

It’s highly important to maintain a healthy diet during this time as it is the time of bacterial and viral infections as well. It’s very wise to boost your immunity during monsoons by increasing your intake of Vitamin C. Be sure to eat only home cooked meals that are light on your stomach. Avoid eating junk foods and street foods no matter how irresistible they are as they are usually full of contaminated water and air. Getting enough hours of sleep (7-8 hours) is a must, since a healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body. Exercising regularly is very beneficial as it helps in improving blood circulation and also releases serotonin which elevates your mood.

Maintain a hygienic environment

Rainy season can be home to various bugs, flies, mosquitoes, etc. so it’s highly recommended to use different kinds of insect repellent sprays and coils. Make sure to protect and keep your living spaces clean and dry with proper disinfectants. Also be sure that you are not surrounded by any dirty or stagnant water. Especially keep children and pets away from the stagnant waters. It is also a good idea to use disinfectant in the bathing water. Hand hygiene is very crucial in today’s time, as precaution for ourselves and our loved ones.

Drink plenty of Fluids

Rainy season is home to so many water borne diseases. Dehydration is one of the main symptoms during these sicknesses. Be sure to drink clean, purified, or boiled water. Avoid drinking fresh fruit juices from street vendors as it could be contaminated. Homemade herbal teas are highly beneficial in boosting immunity and getting the necessary warmth for our bodies. No matter how much you love your gol gappas or pani puri please avoid it during the rains. Instead make such light snacks at home with clean water and enjoy the perks of being safe from diseases.

Keep children and pets safe

Rain is beautiful and its great fun for kids and pets to play outside during rains. As important as it is to have fun and enjoy especially after the sordid heat, it is also important to maintain safety. Please be sure to not leave kids and pets unsupervised while they are outside. Kids can tend to get sick so be sure to boost their immunities. Pets can also attract fleas or ticks during these moist conditions so be sure to check them regularly and spray them with anti-tick or anti-flea repellents. Bath them with the water with disinfectant added and dry them properly. Pets are very prone to getting infection in their paws from the rains and humidity, be sure to always check for that. Kids and pets are our bundles of joy so it is our responsibility to ensure their safety during this season.

Having said my bit above, I hope you all enjoy rainy season as much as we do in our beautiful desi life.
